Children of Earth: Day One
Through means either fair or foul I acquired the first episode of Children of Earth, and I have thinky thoughts! And also flailing. Rather more of the latter, actually. (So many spoilers under the cut!)
1. OMG KISSING OMG YAY!!!! You can bet I'll be playing that clip on repeat for the next week or so. :D That was lovely. Other Jack/Ianto moments I really liked: how excited Ianto was in the beginning about someone thinking they were a couple. His little face just lit up! Them being all tag-team talking the whole episode, because they are a perfectly oiled co-dependent machine. Ianto's coming-out scene to his sister! Although, really, RTD, it's just Jack? I know Torchwood is basically well-funded fanfic, but that's a bit much. But, but, their hug after Jack gets back from the hospital was still sweet! I love the nuances to their non-relationship, though, how Jack is all grrr we are not a couple and Ianto is all insecure and heeee my boys are so broken.
2. I've been trying, mostly without success, to not hate Gwen for two seasons straight, because I like Eve Myles and I like Gwen when they aren't trying to make me like her. But this time she was totally awesome! Her niceness with the old man felt real rather than the forced Gwen Is Caring and Understanding thing I can't stand. Her interactions with Jack and Ianto were made of win! I love when they are more friends/family. Also, Rhys wins forever. Also, Gwen talking to the photos of Owen and Tosh was a nice touch and totally broke my heart.
3. Rupesh! I love you! You are really hot! I wish you weren't a dead traitor. You would have been an awesome Torchwood doctor. DDDDX I will still hold out hopes for cute secretary girl, though not high ones.
4. Good to know that Torchwood is still the worst kept secret in Cardiff. Everyone in the city knows exactly what their car looks like (possible because it is a giant SUV that says TORCHWOOD) and where their base is. And ha, everyone hates dealing with them. Probably because they get sick of being yelled at/hit on by Jack. Also, why does the mayor's office have their secret Torchwood documents under such low security clearance the secretary's password lets you see it?
5. I am intrigued by Jack's daughter - she seems pretty awesome! - and interested in where they are going to go with this bit of information. However, I am more pissed that in one episode they've managed to joss two of the major plot points of the Due South/Torchwood crossover of doom, since the first story is supposed to have Jack all desperate to play happy families with his new-found son and the second story is supposed to have Gwen forced by seeing Jack and Fraser to come to terms with her desire to have a family put against her Torchwood-related fears. We shall have much fanwanking to do,
colourofsaying !
6. It's a good thing we already know Jack will be fine from being blown up, or I might have to actually worry about him a little. Ah, well.
7. I do really like the last scene between Jack and Ianto. It's a nice callback to the scene in Cyberwoman - once again Ianto is leaving someone he loves to die in the Hub, and once again he has to be forcibly made to leave them. Even knowing Jack will be fine it's a bit tragic. I don't know, I just thought it was well-done.
In conclusion, YAY TORCHWOOD IS BACK!
