Subtitle: From Anime to Zen
Wow, my Japanese class is even tinier this quarter than it was last quarter. Takashi-san is doing study abroad in Kyoto, and Mike-san is a grad student, so I guess his schedule didn't work out this term, and we didn't pick up anyone new, so we're down to just the four of us. So tiny! And I'm the only girl which should be interesting. It was fun today, though, and the hour and a quarter goes pretty quickly. Very glad I'm staying in, it should make for a good class.
Re: my poetry writing class...yeah, not so much with the happening. There were a few places that opened up when I went to the first class today, but there were like 7 graduating seniors on the waitlist, so they got dibs. They decided, since there were such a ridiculously large number of people on the waitlist, to do another section so more people could get in. Which is really awesome! Except that it's at the same time as Japanese DDDD: And I can't drop my teensy wonderful Japanese class for a creative writing class, as much as I need/want to take this. It'll hold for another quarter, and it's not like there are a huge number of writing classes required for the concentration - especially since I'll probably fare better in the lottery next year, when I've declared my major, since creative writing minors/English with CW emphasis get preference. Disappointing, but probably not a big deal.
So now I'm shopping courses! My sensei today in class mentioned this religious studies class that sounded pretty neat, so I'm going to check that out tomorrow. From the class summary: "Intro to Japanese Religions: Major themes in Japanese religious culture, including gods, religious sites, and specialist and popular practices. Films and readings from literary, ethnographic, and historical sources in translation." Could be a lot of fun! It fits about perfectly into my schedule (even if I'd have to give up my Fridays off DX) and it's 4 units, which would get me to the bare minimum of 12 units total. Not too shabby. If this doesn't work out, I'm think I'm going to end up taking Intro to Political Philosophy or Intro to International Relations with 150 other people.
