Someone Shut My Brain Off

Dear Self:

I realize that looming threat of graduating college (with an arts degree!) and having to get a ~real job~ like an actual grown-up is going to be this summer's great source of anxiety and gratuitous family meddling (and really, what would summer be if you weren't freaking out over something?). HOWEVER. I do feel the need to step in and say that 3am in the middle of your second week home is maybe not the best time to start researching federal pay grades and the Peace Corps. Just saying.

My Regards,

The Department of Can't I Just Stay In College Forever?

comments

I Know Torchwood Fandom, I Know It Exists

Still alive. Being consumed by the combined forces of Dracula and Sherman Alexie. When I get home for break I am not reading anything more complicated than Marvel Adventures. Distracted myself for over an hour from actual work by singing into my computer for scans_daily, because the internet needs to have audio proof that I am a dork. Also, this:

And now I really want to read some coat porn.

comments

Boring Life Is Boring

Some Things, In No Particular Order

Still job-hunting. I'm waiting for more information from the Jobs Initiative people on when the orientation/workshop is. Yesterday I applied for a job at Borders, waiting to hear from them. Looking for other stuff and refusing to be stressed about it. Although I may have to kill my entire family, who are masters of meddling and unsolicited advice and are driving me crazy.

Did Father's Day dinner at my grandma and grandpa's on Sunday, which was pleasant. My uncle's wife is a really neat person, even though she's still adjusting to the States, and my baby cousin is the cutest toddler in the history of the universe. He's three so he spent the entire evening bouncing off the walls, but he's still cute.

Apparently two of my great-great-uncles on my dad's side were presidents of El Salvador. Before they got assassinated. No, I don't know which ones, but still pretty neat.

I'm halfway through the second season of Dexter, the third season of Teen Titans, and the fourth season of Supernatural. So, you know, I've been watching a fuckton of television, obviously.

I know I've been badly spoiled by the SGA and SPN fandoms, which have a pretty high proportion of sheer brilliant crack and kinky fucks, respectively, but NCIS has a terrible fandom. I cannot believe how depressingly hard it is to find good, IC Gibbs/Tony. I've only read like ten fics I actually liked, and most of them were by Nix.

My continued inability to do a non-rubbish four-strand braid or a french-braid of any sort is seriously annoying. How hard can it possibly be to braid hair, self?

I got nailed by a goathead this afternoon. OWOWOW. For those of you who don't live in the desert, they are also known as puncturevine, they grow everywhere, they shed large, hard-as-rock spiny stickers that are capable of puncturing a bike tire, they FUCKING HURT.

I am pretty much about to die of boredom. Whyyyyyyyy can't I find anything to do for more than five minutes?

comments

Things I Learned Today:

The word for the Japanese-American economic relationship (にちべいかんのけいざいてきかんけい、in case you were wondering). Also that salarymen have strange and complicated social lives.

That Japanese cinema is a strange and wonderful thing. Tampopo was equal parts delightful (I REALLY want ramen now) and WTF (did NOT need to see sexytiem hijinks involving SHRIMP).

That the door in the basement between the stairs and the laundry room locks now. Which, uh, freaked me the fuck out, I must admit, since I find our basement creepy as all hell. If I had been locked in down there because I didn't bother to take my ID to do laundry, I would have been PISSED.

That Stanford has more awesome people than I ever seem to realize, including other people who ship Sulu/Chekov. *waves to Introductory*

That I will never, it seems, find an equilibrium temperature for my fridge where my frozen things stay frozen and my refridgerated things do not. But ice cream sandwiches that have melted out of shape and refrozen, while difficult to eat, are still delicious!

comments
