Time for this week's Doctor Ho-shit are those vampires? post!

1. Yay Rory is back! Rory is, I think, exactly the kind of cute hapless dork I love - he's sweet and funny and kind of but not totally useless, and he is obviously head-over-heels in love with Amy. His calling out of the Doctor was dead-on, too; the boy is smart, or at least perceptive. If this were still RTD's show that would probably mean he was going to get his heart broken and die horribly, but this is the Moffat-era and my hope springs eternal! But if they do keep him around, I'll be interested to see how it changes the Amy/Rory and Amy/Doctor dynamics to have them all be in the same time machine together, although Amy, awesome as she, doesn't seem to see any problem with it. :)

2. I'm having a hard time thinking up thinky-thoughts for this post, because this episode just sort of...was. I mean, I loved it, don't get me wrong, the writing was funny and the story was interesting and Venice is neat. But it wasn't especially bad and it wasn't fantastically good and it didn't really advance the season arc along much and it doesn't have any sticky meta to deal with. It was just a fun middle-season MotW episode.

3. Dear Show: Color-blind casting can be a good thing, if, say, it makes your show more diverse or gives you the fabulous Angel Coulby as a leading actress. But color-blind casting combined with a habit of killing off your extras and your single-episode protagonists? Not so good. In other words: STOP KILLING OFF ALL YOUR BLACK CHARACTERS IT IS SKEEVY.

4. "I'm a Time Lord. You're a big fish. Think of the children."

5. On the Eleven/Amy vs Amy/Rory front - it's interesting, this whole 'I'll take you and your fiance on a date anywhere in space and time' thing could be very shippy, but it doesn't read that way to me at all. Eleven doesn't come across as someone who is nobly sacrificing his (potential) love interest because He Is No Good For her; he comes across as genuinely wanting the two of them to be happy together. And Amy doesn't read to me as someone suffering under a thwarted love - if she's got cold feet about the wedding, I don't think it's about the Doctor nearly as much as, you know, being young and uncertain if she's making the right choice with this guy.

And come on, the scene where she and the Doctor have their mutual jumping-up-and-down squee about the vampires was just adorable, in a totally BFFs way.

6. Matt Smith is scorchingly hot in goggles and shirtsleeves. Just thought you should know.

...I hadn't thought about that. Yes, please, let's not have Rory's heart broken and a horrible death. That would be unfortunate. Sealing in a parallel universe is also not okay.

...Time Lord/Fish children would be really, really ugly. Thank you for pointing that out, Eleven.

Seconded on the scorching hot in goggles and shirtsleeves! Also when getting in Rory's personal space because he was insufficiently excited about being in the TARDIS.
