masterofmidgets: hair (hair)
I made it through today well enough - religions class+lit paper conference - but more or less the second I walked through the door of my room, I got hit by this bone-deep exhaustion, so much so I didn't even have the energy to walk the ten feet across the room to move my computer from my desk back to my bed, where I usually work. I think I was really dehydrated, too, which probably didn't help. But mostly it was just...god, this week.

But now I'm feeling super-duper indulgent. I checked my mailbox while I was killing time before my paper conference, and my new package of CV goodies finally came. No shampoo bars this time, sadly, because I'm still only halfway through the batch I bought during spring break ([personal profile] colourofsaying , remind me to do reviews for the new bars I tried!), but I bought some new soap bars. The honey butter makes me feel moisturized just looking at it, it's so rich. And I got another goat milk and honey bar, since it/my skin=OTP. And Honey and Cornmeal. I had to limit myself to just the first page of bars when I ordered, or I never would have been able to make up my mind. Oh, and a little tin of tangerine and grapfruit flavored pumpkin oil lip balm, mmmmm.

So the last week or so my hair has been really really tangly and kind of weird feeling, even though I haven't changed anything in my routine and was using my typical metric fuckton of conditioner. And I started thinking, hey, maybe this is that build-up problem some of the people on the shampoo bar thread complain about after a while of using just shampoo bars. The standard advice for that is to do a clarifying wash, of course, just like with any other build-up, so I resolved to do that.  I've also been meaning for awhile to do a diagnostic clarifying wash - it's a really good way, apparently, to figure out wtf is up with your hair by getting every last trace of everything out of it - so it seemed logical to just combine the two and get it over with all at once.

Using a liquid shampoo felt very odd after so many months of using the bars. But so luxuriant - I did three lathers, to get all the clarifying goodness, and by the end I was getting just gobs of suds, way more than I'm used to. Add that to scrubbing the rest of me with my Honey and Cornmeal bar, and man, I feel all squeaky-clean and nice now. Except that my hair looks horrendous, because part of the diagnostic clarifying wash is that you can't use conditioner. HOLY FUCK. It's...nice to know some things never change? Even if those things are that without conditioner my hair is capable of devouring small mammals. At least it smells nicely of lavendar. I got to use the tail-end of a bottle of Kiss My Face I had from where-the-fuck-ever and forgot about, instead of boring Suave. Mmmmmmm.

And now, Due South, yay!

I've always wanted to try hair-taping, because it sounds like a cute, practical hairstyle, but for one reason or another I never got around to it. Well, tonight I was watching Due South and I started thinking, you know, I've got first day hair that looks like rubbish, it doesn't matter if I play with it - maybe I should try hair-taping. So I did!
