masterofmidgets: (cap wants to eat your brains)
Met up with diamminesilver and hanjuuluver today for our One Big Hanging-Out Day before they both head off for parts unknown (ie Indiana and Colorado) for the rest of the month. This is one of the times I really hate the quarters system we have, since all my friends get off way earlier than I do and we don't get the chance to hang out.

Saw Star Trek for the second time, and it was just as awesome if not more than the first. I think I love Kirk about 1000x times more than I did before. And bitchface!Spock, my god. And I converted hanjuuluver into a Chekov-lover and probably a Sulu/Chekov shipper because she is awesome that way. Did get into a fight with diamminesilver because she hates Star Trek and it makes me sad...um, sorry about that?

My dad scored us free movie passes through one of his clients, so we also saw Up. LOVE LOVE LOVE SO MUCH LOVE. I don't think I've seen a kids' movie in ages that broke my heart so many times. I was basically crying for a good 2/3rds of the movie. But in a good way! Because it's sad and sweet and so cute and heart-felt and LOVE. Also, Dug is about the doggiest dog I have ever seen in a movie. :)

I'm adding Dexter to my list of shows to watch this summer. I watched the first episode last night and it's...okay, the actual premise is INCREDIBLY STUPID. The whole thing with the foster dad seeing at age that Dexter is a psychotic sociopath so he decides to train him to use his serial killer powers for good, or at least lesser evil? IS STUPID. Why the hell would you not put this kid into massive amounts of therapy? Why would a kid whose moral compass is so fucked up he's a serial killer by his teens listen to an authority figure telling him why and when to kill people? Why would the dad not TURN HIM OVER TO THE COPS? THE STUPID, IT BURNS.

But if I can get past the agonizing stupidity of the set-up, it's totally my kind of show and I think I could get really into it. I love serial killers (in, like, a non-creepy way?) and I love serial killer story lines in cop dramas. And I love the idea of someone who has this perfect normal mask but underneath it he is just a seething mass of issues and psychosis. It's more or less the same reason I love Death Note. It's just another form of identity porn, really.
