masterofmidgets: (fight song)
Well, I may not have gotten out of bed before noon a single day this week (today I got up at 2 in the afternoon...mmmm summer), but at least I can no longer claim to be completely useless. I just took my first steps to getting an actual real paying summer job. We'll see where this goes.

Totally unbeknownst to me, Albuquerque has this thing called the Mayor's Youth Jobs Initiative. If you are between 16 and 21, which I am, you can fill out an online form on the city's website, including what kind of job skills/prior experience you have and what kind of places you are interested in working for, and the city will try to hook you up with private sector jobs at places that participate in the program. Which is cool in that it allows me to filter out shit jobs I would hate - ie, anything to do with manual labor, anything in food services, or places like the movie theater I worked at last summer.

I got to say that I have experience in customer service (movie theater and call center), telemarketing (call centers), typing and clerical/filing (library), a not half shabby if rather short list (I wish it had a space for letting me say that I am pretty quick at learning whatever else you want me to do *pouts*). And I listed myself as being interested in jobs in call centers, banks/credit unions, advertising/marketing, entertainment/media, museums and adminstrative/office work. It lets me list my school, so hopefully Stanford will put up some red flags of awesome in the brain of whoever is looking this over.

I've really got my fingers crossed that this will pan out with a decent, or at least tolerable, summer job. I don't want to be stuck doing some crap job I hate, but I really desperately need to save up money for school next year.

And the sooner I have an income again, the sooner I can buy the JLI trades I've been eyeing and hit up the Awesome Bead Store and get to work on the Cap/Iron Man hairsticks I've been thinking about making.
