Sep. 22nd, 2009 07:20 pmOne of the things I like about being an English major is that instead of having one big honking textbook that I use the whole term, most of the time I'm reading 5-10 novels per class, which means I can stagger out my purchasing over the whole quarter. It's the same amount of money for them in the end, but it feels like less when it's ten or twenty dollars at a go instead of $150 at once, especially when I'm depositing paychecks every other week.
I thought I'd buy most of the books for my AmLit class off Amazon this week, but when I saw the total added up on the screen I just about went into hysterics - which is riduculous, I know, because the total for all my books for my two lit classes, plus shipping and handling, was still less than the Chem and Physics students pay for one of their books. In any case, I think I'll go back to my regular method of ordering the books in small batches. It means I get more post, anyway.
Intermediate Fiction Writing is going to be awesome. The professor is so nice, and it seems like we have a great group. Out of about 9 girls, at least 5 or 6 said they like writing sci fi and/or fantasy. I'm already working on the outline for the short story due two weeks from now. I need to buy a writing notebook - something less expensive than the Moleskine and Paperworks ones they have in the bookstore, but a little nicer than a plain spiral bound. I think perhaps a shopping trip is in order this weekend.
