Con Report
Oct. 31st, 2010 08:33 pmHappy Halloween, internets! The highlight of my holiday was watching the Tenth Doctor and Captain Jack Harkness perform an inappropriate puppet show with Merlin and Arthur plushies. Oh Yaoi-Con. Never ever change.
Other noteworthy con-type things, in no particular order:
got my Rocky Horror cherry popped with the live show on Friday night. I learned how to do the Time Warp! And a large number of jokes now make a lot more sense.
Went to the Cosplay Contest for the first time ever (I know, I know, I suck. But I'm always worn out by Saturday evening!) and basked in the joy of elaborate steampunk costumes and skits that made no sense whatsoever. I especially appreciated the Black Butler belly-dancing competition. And the Ichigo cosplayer who just flexed his muscles for music for two minutes. I am...easily entertained, it seems.
Left the J-Drama panel with a list a mile long of shows I need to watch, like, yesterday. There wasn't a lot of discussion, mostly just watching clips of really homoerotic scenes from different genres of drama, but I can get behind that.
Spent a kind of embarrassing amount of money (for me, anyway, my roommate spent like 400 dollars on art yesterday), but it was worth it, because now I have 4 new manga, three new books (one Western steampunk romance and two action-y light novels), a pair of steampunk earrings, and a gorgeous print of America from Hetalia. And also:
SHERLOCK MOTHERFUCKING HOLMES DOUJINSHI. I got so excited when I saw this that I called
colourofsaying, who made it very clear to me that buying it was not optional. Not only am I reading the hell out of this thing, I am taking it to fucking class tomorrow.
All in all a con very well spent. Although I am glad I got most of my reading done on Friday night, because in keeping with several years' standing tradition, I'm pretty sure I'm getting sick. Ah well, that's the price I pay for an awesome weekend with awesome people.
