My concept of faeries was very much shaped by Mercedes Lackey and multitudinous other urban fantasy writers when I was in high school, and cemented by what I learned in my Witch Hunts class about European Folk Lore - Damien is a Very Pretty Faerie Lord who rides into Ifan's town just looking for hot manflesh to seduce/kidnap.
