Torchwood Day Four
Jul. 9th, 2009 06:59 pmSo I haven't watched Children of Earth Day Four yet. And I'm not going to watch it until tomorrow. But I know what happens.
If this is it and he's really perma-dead, that's it, I'm done. No more Torchwood for me. It's not a protest or a bitchfit, it's just a simple statement. I love Jack half to death, but he's not worth watching a show for, and this is the only time I've been able to stand Gwen for more than an episode at a time. Ianto was my favorite character, he was one of the most interesting characters, and I just can't see the show working without him. I don't want to.
More than that, I do not have the energy to get invested in a show and its characters when I know they could be killed off at any time. It's just not worth my time, and I hate that RTD does it as a cheap thrill. I think it's shoddy writing and worse plotting that he does because he thinks it makes it more exciting and will keep his watchers hooked, and I do not buy into that. I refuse. If Torchwood is just going to keep breaking my heart, I'll stick to fandom, thanks.
There are a lot of ways this storyline could go, and I'm having a hard time buying this is it. I don't know. That's why I'm not watching Day Four until tomorrow, when I know how it all ends. If they go with a time reset, or alien stasis, or Jack's life spit fixing him all better, then I'll watch it and be okay with it, even though it will hurt to see him die. If he really is dead for good...well, I'm not watching this show for the plot or the writing. I'm watching it for the characters. And if the character I love more than any of them is gone I don't want to see it. As far as I'm concerned the show will have ended on Wednesday. The 456 went away somehow, Torchwood established its new base in the warehouse and started kicking ass again, Lois runs away from the government to kick ass with them. End of story.
In conclusion, if I wanted to be a fandom-masochist, I'd read more Batman.
