Summary: Time and memory do as they have always done.

 

He keeps the retcon in his breast pocket, close to his heart, so when it hurts too much he can remind himself there is an easy way out he doesn't deserve, a promise he’s going to keep if it breaks him.

One day he takes them out and asks himself why he never used them. He doesn't know, and it doesn't matter. He doesn't remember why he wanted to use them in the first place. There must have been something he wanted to forget.

The pills spill out across the table like grains of sand, and he can't think of a reason for the tears in his eyes.
