Thinky Thoughts On Doctor Who (or, well, one thinky thought and a lot of flailing)!

1. I liked this episode more than a lot of people, I think, but I still thought it was a little...formulaic? Bland? Simple, possibly. Especially because I could see much more interesting stories peeking through the cracks in this one. The first fifteen minutes or so I thought were completely brilliant, because I? Actually find the Daleks scary a lot of the time (don't laugh). And to watch these scenes where the Daleks, who we know are bad and scary and wrong, are just hanging around the war bunker, making tea and wearing little Union Jacks, sure, it's funny and cute, but it is also CREEPY AS FUCK. Particularly when the Doctor is there going NO NO NO THIS IS BAD and no one believes him, not the scientist, not the Prime Minister, not even his Companion. It was horrifying and disturbing and I loved it. And I wish they had run with that, instead of it being Yet Another Dalek Scheme. How much more fascinating (and morally complex!) would this episode have been if the humans really had accidentally reverse engineered Daleks from some bits of time-lost tech they found washed up in London? C'mon show, be more daring!

2. GO GO DALEK RANGERS. I hope they keep this, just because WTF CANDY-COLOR DALEKS. However, I do think the new voices are a lot less creepy than the voices of the old Daleks. Too deep, or something. >:(

3. Eleven is the flirtiest Doctor to ever flirt and I love it. EXCEPT WHEN HE IS FLIRTING WITH WINSTON CHURCHILL WHYYYYYYY. Also, despite any and all evidence to the contrary, I choose to assume Danny Boy was Jack. Because I say so.

4. You know, I don't care that it was kind of (unbelievably) cheesy. I don't even care that somehow bombs can be deactivated with the power of loooooove. The resolution of the android!scientist plot still made me incredibly, flailingly happy, because look! A character has an existential crisis that is resolved with a minimum of angst and he doesn't even have to die to redeem himself! He gets to be happy and move on with his life even though he's actually a robot! If this if what makes Doctor Who children's television, and not SRS SCI-FI FOR GROWN-UPS, then I say bring on the kids' programming.

5. "I thought it was going to be all running through time, being daft and fixing stuff." ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
