My Life of Adventure and Excitement
May. 17th, 2010 11:51 pmAwesome: Working the world's tiniest shift at the call center. Since no one signs up for Sunday now that we are only required to work one shift a week (it is almost the end of the year, so we are almost out of numbers), there were only like five of us there, and the Boss bought us muffins and hung out talking about Gertrude Stein and baseball. And as a reward for having really high credit card percentages all year (seriously the only thing I am actually good at), now I get a new pool of people who pledged money in the fall and then never actually sent us anything. Which means mostly they are pretty nice! And sometimes, like yesterday, they change their mind and decide to up their pledge from $100 to $1000 in the middle of the call. \o/
Also awesome: Writing!Prof was out of town at a conference today, so instead of having a regular lecture, we had one of the Jones Lecturers come in and do a Q&A about one of her short stories. Which would have been neat no matter what, since the writing people here are great, but I had Molly for my intro fiction class last year - this was the class where I transitioned from 'eh, maybe I'll think about English if nothing better comes up' to 'I want to major in English and become a pro writer.' She is pretty wonderful! And a brilliant writer - I loved the short story we had to read for the class. And it's always really interesting to hear writers - especially successful writers - talk about their process, so that was cool.
Less awesome: I have 120 pages of Shakespeare to read tonight...and I just spent two hours straight playing Solitaire. Come on, brain - if we're going to hopelessly procrastinate, can't we at least do it with something less mind-numbingly pointless?
