Normally I can take parades or leave them - they're fun, but not anything I'd go out of my way to catch, especially when the temperature starts hitting the mid-90s. I do, however, make an exception for the Corrales 4th of July parade. My mom and I and her sister and my cousins have been going to that one since I was a wee thing, and it is my FAVORITE, because it is very informal and very, very silly and just WONDERFUL.

I find clowns a bit creepy generally. BUT LOOK AT THIS TINY LITTLE BABY CLOWN HOW CUTE IS SHE?

Okay, I'll give the Civil War re-enactors a pass, since we were involved and even had a minor battle (the Battle of Glorietta Pass), but wtf colonialists? I'm pretty sure that in 1776 our colonists were wearing rebozos and mantillas, since they were, you know, SPANISH.

There were very many antique cars, some of them nicer than others, and even one guy on a motorized bar stool. I liked these ladies an awful lot. :)

As my mom said when we saw this one: this truck just makes you want to pack up and DELIVER something. Oddly enough, it's not a milk truck or a farm truck; it belongs to an art gallery.

OMG OLD-TIMEY FIRE TRUCK. OMG OLD-TIMEY FIRE CAPTAIN.

Lots of horses, some being ridden, some pulling carts. This one was GORGEOUS and he moved like he was in a show. ♥

One of my mom's gardening clients and her miniature horses, pulling their little carts. SO CUTE.

There was also a small brass band marching in, but I like this better: that's two fiddles, three bangos, and a guitar, in a wagon that's being pulled by a TRACTOR.

A lot of the cars/wagons/trucks/tractors had water guns so they could spray people as they passed by, but then a lot of the people on the sidelines had waterguns too. These guys had an entire wading pool in the back of their trailer, and we got caught in the firefight. Refreshing, if worrying for the cameras.

The Compadres de Corrales, aka the Corrales All-Kazoo Band. AMAZING.

AND OF COURSE NO PARADE IS COMPLETE WITHOUT GOATS.
After the parade we had lunch with the boyfriend's family, and then I came back to my dad's for dinner and an evening of watching the fireworks. We had rain on friday night, so I guess people decided the fire danger could be damned, because there are still a ton going off. We did our best to contribute to the din with our own stash of explosives. All in all, a good 4th of July.
