Well, I had nothing better to do this weekend, so I devoted my Saturday to getting caught up on Doctor Who, and, uh:

1. Day of the Moon gave me actual, literal nightmares. Not even kidding. My bedroom is teensy, but it's a weird trapezoidal shape and there's a corner by the window I can't see well from the bed and I kept waking up freaking out because I was convinced one of the Silence was standing in it. So hats off to you, Mr. Moffat. That scene in the orphanage with the beds and the rain and Amy covered in hash marks is going to stick in my hindbrain for a long time.

2. There's a not completely terrible series five Who novel with a similar starting premise - a research lab on the moon finds a portal and an astronaut falls through into an English shopping center - and part of me kept getting confused and expecting plot points from that story to show up here.

3. When did River Song become awesome? At this point I can't even tell if it's the writers figuring out what to do with the character better or just me getting used to her, but every episode she's in I like her a little more. In this one I was actually quite fond. I still cannot picture her and Eleven having sex AT ALL, but they can flirt together until the end of time, it's wonderful.

4. SPEAKING OF WONDERFUL THINGS, RORY WILLIAMS YOU ARE AMAZING. Running from secret agents in shorts and a polo shirt, dressing in 60s drag with glasses, waving at pirates, just absolute perfection. What can I say? Awkward, dorky guys are totally my kryptonite. Also, I am frankly astonished that a show handled the love-triangle-with-ambiguous-confessions thing with as little stupidity as the last few episodes. I love everything about Amy/Rory, even the parts that are a little messed up.

5. AMY POND IS THE BEST PIRATE EVER. Seriously, I only wanted a few things out of a pirate episode: ridiculous naval slang, the Doctor making terrible sailing jokes, and swashbuckling. All of which I got, so I am more than happy. Oh Karen, how are you so unbelievably gorgeous?

I could have more critical thoughts (the ending of episode three, for example, doesn't I think hold up to scrutiny very well, and other people have better articulated problems with the scope of episodes 1-2), but mostly I'm just over here in my happy corner going OMG TEAM TARDIS I LOVE YOU ALL. I am really excited to start working on my fanvid project for my film studies class.
