So That Was Great
Jul. 31st, 2011 08:58 pmI HAVE EATEN ALL OF THE CAKE. AND SEEN ALL OF THE DEATHLY HALLOWS.
Deathly Hallows is really not my favorite Harry Potter book - it's not my least favorite, and it has parts I deeply love, but I think it has serious pacing issues and I tend to not deal well with beloved character death. That said...holy crap, this was an EPIC movie. I went with
hanjuuluver and fortunately we had a very laid-back early morning crowd, because we kept flailing around and making high-pitched sounds of glee under our breath. Guys, I have been waiting years to see Neville get his BAMF moment, and it was exactly as glorious as I hoped. Also awesome: the visual effects on Voldemort's death, all of the music but especially that very last return of the refrain at the end of the epilogue, SNAPE'S DEATH. I cried way more at Snape's death in the movie than I ever did reading the book.
And, you know, there were nitpicky obsessive fan complaints I could make (how did Luna get back to Hogwarts? Why did no one else get to see Voldemort die? Where was my Dumbledore backstory???). But overall it was pretty damn awesome, and a great closing chapter to something that really defined my entire generation, and certainly the greater portion of my childhood and adolescence.
I was at my mom's last night, and then had birthday-related family things all day - which was very nice of course, lots of hugs and cake and my dad is getting me a Pep Guardiola kit for my present. But I am kind of glad to be home now, and definitely glad I don't have to work tomorrow, because I think now I am going to have to binge on all the post-war Harry/Draco epic romance crackfic I can get my hands on. This should be a fun night.
