masterofmidgetsIt's that time of year again - class registration opens tomorrow, and I am now in that state of alternately being really excited about the classes I can take, and freaking out about which classes I can/can't/will have to get up awfully early to take. I'm trying this year to have a little better balance of courses, so I don't end up killing myself trying to do several classes with major essay components and spazzing out and failing, like last year. So far I have:
1. Japanese 17B - definitely. I like Japanese enough that I want to keep up with it this year, see if I can get my skills higher before I apply for study abroad. I'm pretty psyched about it, and it should be tough but not more than I can handle. Hopefully.
2. CS 105 (introduction to computers) - almost definitely. I need an engineering/applied sciences credit at some point, I wanted a non-writing course to balance out my schedule, and a class in basic computer use and programming seems like it would suit my needs fairly well. Has anyone taken this that can give me any more info on its hardness or lack thereof?
3. Linguistics101/Language&Society/Translations/Shakespeare's Plays - this would be my majorly undecided spot. I'd really like to do intro to linguistics, but it's only offered at one time, and it would mean taking Japanese every day at 10.00am, which I am not sure I can do. So painful! The other three are intro sems - the first two are freshman preference, the Shakepeare one is sophomore preference. They would fit into my schedule /much/ better, and they do sound like fun. Especially the translations one - I was just having a conversation with my dad today about how interesting translations are as a subset of literature, and wondering if Stanford had any classes specifically on that, so cool. And the Shakespeare class would make up for not taking English 60 yet. So, uh, anyone have any opinions/advice to offer for this?
4. National Novel Writing Month - yes, we have a NaNo class! Is that awesome, or what? It's only 1 unit, one evening a week, pass/fail, and I am so utterly taking it. It's just basically literary theory and writing exercises, and then in November you write a novel. I am so excited about this.

Your classes really do seem like good picks. You have a really nice balance between hard fuzzy and techie.
