Today was my last day at work. Wow! And, suitably, it was batshit weird - in the first hour, I got an escalation call (where someone is too pissed off to deal with so I have to transfer to my supe), a kudos call (where someone thinks I'm so awesome they ask to talk to my supe), and an 85-year-old woman with a Victoria's Secret account. I spent half the afternoon arguing with Phillip about the election and techno music, and my entire lunch break on the phone with
telyanofcelore talking about Doctor Who. And now I don't have to back for at least 9 months, if ever. To celebrate, here's a music post!
Something Corporate - Me And The Moon
reasons like seasons
they constantly change
and the seasons of last year
like reasons have floated away
away with this spilt milk
away with this dirty dish water, away
seventeen years, and all that he gave was a daughter
"it's me and the moon," she says
i got no trouble with that
but i am a butterfly, you wouldn't let me die
"it's me and the moon," she says
I'm reasonably sure this song is about spousal murder. It sure is pretty though!
Janis Ian - At Seventeen
I learned the truth at seventeen
That love was meant for beauty queens
And high school girls with clear skinned smiles
Who married young and then retired
The valentines I never knew
The Friday night charades of youth
Were spent on one more beautiful
At seventeen I learned the truth...
I think I originally heard this song on an episode of the Simpsons...but it kind of stuck with me. Janis Ian's voice is lovely, and this is basically a nice anthem for those of us that hope at some point being smart and interesting will pay off more than be pretty and easy.
Beauty And The Beast - Gaston
No one's slick as Gaston
No one's quick as Gaston
No one's neck's as incredibly thick as Gaston's
For there's no man in town half as manly
Perfect, a pure paragon!
You can ask any Tom, Dick or Stanley
And they'll tell you whose team they prefer to be on
...I don't remember this song being quite as suggestive as it really appears to be. It's kind of horrifying. But I saw this on a fanmix, and now it's in my head as a Jack Harkness theme song. Shut up.
Aladdin - A Whole New World
A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming
A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I'm way up here
It's crystal clear
That now I'm in a whole new world with you
Now I'm in a whole new world with you
This was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid, and this was totally my favorite song. I have it in my playlist now because it is /such/ a John/Rodney song. And John is definitely Princess Jasmine XD
Protozoa - Supernova Girl
Stargazing megafast
You hit me like a cosmic blast
You've given me a technicolor world
Putting me in overdrive
Speed of light i'm so alive
Could you be my supernova girl?
Interplanetary megastellar hydrostatic
There's no gravity between us
Our love is automatic
Yes, yes, I'm on a Disney kick, I /know/. But this pretty much my Official Booster Gold Theme Song. Because Booster's theme song has to be something ridiculously upbeat, poptastic and cheesy. It's who he is.
Five For Fighting - If God Made You
Sunset sailing on April skies
Bloodshot fire clouds in her eyes
I can't say what I might believe
But if God made you he's in love with me
Hey Kid...Do wishes count at all
Can you give me a sign...give me anything I won't tell a soul you told
Hey Kid...Will you hold me when I sleep
Will you find me when the tide decides that I got to leave
telyanofcelore sent me this, and she was right that it is a Doctor/Master song. I don't even ship Doctor/Master that hard, but /damn/.
Wise Guys - Nur Fur Dich
I went – just for you – to see Bridget Jones the Movie,
And I – just for you – called those jandals really groovy.
I walked – just for you – round the park for hour on hour.
I used – just for you – organic products in the shower.
I put – just for you – my leather coat out of commission,
And I – just for you – changed my outlook on nutrition.
Started – just for you – going jogging every day
Just for you – but you have left me anyway.
Wise Guys are a German pop a capella band. And as odd as that makes them sound. I love them so much. All of their songs are so bouncy and fun!
