masterofmidgets: (later okay?)
At work yesterday, I wasn't getting a ton of pick-ups, so I mostly spent my time talking to Coworker E - always fun, because she's also an English/Creative Writing major and it's nice to compare notes, and also she doesn't seem to mind my going on about comics and politics, even though she's not much of an Obama fan. Anyway, talk turned to swine flu, and she said a bunch of people in her dorm were really sick and she thinks they have it. But none of them are going to the health center, of course.

If classes get cancelled and we all get sent home because stupid freshmen don't have the sense to take care of themselves, I am going to be so fucking pissed off.

I spent my entire afternoon today once I got from class going through back-posts on Scans_Daily 2.0 trying to find the post someone made of the manga where Jesus and Buddha are roommates in an apartment in Tokyo. We're still reading the Lotus Sutra and doing Buddhism next week, and when I mentioned the manga to my prof at the end of class today, she said it sounded totally awesome. And it really, really is. Even more cracked out and fantastic than I remembered from the original post.

FIND OF THE WEEK:

I was bumming around in the bookstore today, as you do, when my eye was caught by what is, quite possibly, the most incredibly awesome thing I have ever seen ever. BEHOLD:

Photobucket
Why, oh why, has no one ever told me such a thing existed before?! The level of crackitude here, the sheer WTFery, is simply mind-blowing. MANGA. SHAKESPEARE. HAMLET AS A WHITE-HAIRED BISHIE. IT IS SET IN 2170. WTF. FUTURISTIC SAMURAI MACBETH. WTF.

The truly awesome part is that, although they're abridged, the manga use pretty much the orginal text - it's actually Shakespeare, just instead of having boring old dialogue tags, they have spiky-haired manga versions of everyone running around. And there's a bunch of them, too - most of the major tragedies and a good few of the comedies, it looks like. I want to buy them soooooo baaaaaad. I don't know if I'm going to be able to stop myself.

This pretty much made my entire day. That and passing a Harry Potter and a Gandalf on my way to class. Why there were so many people cosplaying on campus today (and by so many I mean any at all WTF) I do not know, but I'm not protesting anything that makes my day that much more surreal. XD
