VICTORIAN ENGLAND: MORE KINKY THAN YOU THOUGHT. (And please consider that this is the first stanza of a poem that goes on for eleven pages, and is one out of an entire novella's worth of flagellation erotica. Yeah.)
Also, Japan needs to send them a thank you card for inventing the genre of school boy porn. I don't know what the manga industry would do without it.
A Post of Love (Boy- and otherwise)
Nov. 2nd, 2007 09:15 pmHave I mentioned just how much I seriously LOVE my dormmates? Because they rock out loud, they really do.
While I was at the student bookstore today buying some badly needed textbooks, I did a little manga shopping, and pretty much face-planted when I saw they had Junjo Romantica. I mean, our bookstore NEVER has yaoi! The closest they've ever gotten is Loveless. So I flipped out and decided I had to buy it, before it disappeared forever (sensible I am not). Then I got back to my dorm, and instead of going up to my room as I meant to, I ended up hanging out in the lounge for the next 6 hours. And at one point, I got vaguely bored, and decided to whip out Junjo Romantica and start reading it.
Somehow I had completely forgotten that it is very, very, very smutty. As in explicit, and quite so. I was not expecting to open it and almost immediately see sex of the kind that occurs between two men and involves a lot of lube. *grins* not that it's not good. Good art, and a fairly intriguing storyline, although I like Shout Out Loud! and Black Knight better. Anyway. Someone noticed me reading it, and asked if they could see. And I was like "...you won't like it. Seriously. You won't like it. It's gay. It's gay /porn/." Despite my protestations, it was taken, and...when did reading porn become a group activity? I mean, really!
But honestly, Dan was reading it out loud, and I know he's gay, but none of the other guys there were, and everyone was so cool with it. They seemed to find it horribly funny (which it was), which is just so far from what I'm used to - the reaction I typically get would be something along the lines of "OMG GAY PORN MAKE IT GO AWAY!!!" And no one gave me any weird looks for the fact that I was reading gay porn in the first place.
WHAT IS THIS STRANGE PLACE I HAVE COME TO?
So in conclusion, Junjo Romantica=hot and good, Faisan=win, and Dan=way too cute in a skirt and tights.
Angst Avoidance Tactics, and Porn
Aug. 20th, 2007 12:13 amAl and I had some random conversation yesterday about what kind of animals we would be. I'd kind of like to think I'm something really cool, like a jungle cat or something. If I'm really honest, though, I think I'm more like a labrador puppy - loud, messy, and overenthusiastic, with a tendency to get into everything and get worked up over nothing. Kind of annoying, but still loveable. I hope. Dunno.
While Roy and I were out, I bought a new manga, Black Knight. Totally BL porn, and quite lovely, really. I hate manga that have a wonderful, interesting plot but you can never get into to it because the art is so bad or weird that it keeps distracting you. A lot of the BLU yaoi stuff is done in a veeeeeery shojo, angular, long and slender style that doesn't appeal to me at all - Junjo Romance being a prime example. I guess for all my yaoi tendencies, I really am a shonen girl at heart; I like lots of action with my sex, a real plot, even if it's silly, and a simple, less exaggerated art style. I think that's why I prefer the early Gravitation volumes to the later ones - the mangaka's style changed a lot, and I preferred the earlier stuff with the more "normal" character designs. But Black Knight looks good - pretty, not too girly artwork, and it's about a prince and his bodyguard, so there's plenty of action. We'll see.
