The actor who plays Lord Vetinari in the Going Postal adaptation bears a disconcerting resemblance to Roger Delgado.

I'd suggest a crossover in which Ankh-Morpork is part of a long-running gambit by the Master to a) take over the universe and b) blow raspberries at the Doctor, but I'm hard-pressed to think of a regeneration of the Master that could run a large city that successfully for that long (or a Master who would let Sam Vimes within twenty feet of him, come to that). Perhaps Vetinari is the Master's long-suffering, vastly more competent older brother? Occasionally they meet up and have drinks together at the Palace or the TARDIS or whichever planet the Master is trying to conquer at the moment, and Vetinari tries to impress upon him the finer points of Machiavellian scheming. And then Drumknott has to listen the rest of the day to Vetinari sighing that the poor young fool will never be a proper tyrant while he's still mooning over that odd ex-boyfriend of his.

...now I really want to write it.

I assume most of us here are familiar with the theory of L-Space, that fluctuation in the trousers of space and time that forms around large masses of books and links all the libraries that are, were, and might be together. I would like to propose a minor addendum to that theory.

L-Hole: Hereby defined as a minor quantum event, varying in size from the width of a single paperback to the length of a full shelf, that forms in the vacuum left where the card catalog tells you insistently the book you are looking for should be found, if that book had not ceased to exist, or, one presumes, been checked out already by someone in the other trousers leg. The canny library patron can spot L-Holes by the gaps in the LoC numbers of the surrounding volumes, as well as the steady presence close by of other, less quantum-minded patrons grumbling about people who don't bother to put books back in the right place when they're done with them.

New Trailer for Going Postal up! IT CAN BE MAY NOW PLEASE?

Lord Vetinari doesn't look especially like my mental picture of him - why on earth is he blond? - but everyone else is pretty damn good. Especially Adora Belle, who just edges out Polly and Sybil as my Favoritest Discworld Lady Ever. I am so excited about this movie, you guys, I don't even have words for it.

(This is making me want to reconsider writing that story where Moist/Adora Belle and William/Saccharissa have epic partner swapping hijinks. What the hell, brain? But...well, Moist and William talking circles around each other would be hot like burning, and Saccharissa might need a little persuading but I'm pretty sure Adora Belle would be all in, if the whole thing wasn't her idea to begin with - it totally is, though - and yeeeah, I'm going to hell, aren't I?)

Found this today while I was lurking in the GO comm Lower Tadfield:
  http://www.paulkidby.com/news/index.html

And all I can say is...fuck. Just...fuck. It always seems so terribly tragic when something like this happens to a writer - like painters who go blind, or musicians who lose their hearing - like God is just fucking with you, trying to take away the most important thing you have. And - it's /TERRY PRATCHETT./ I worship the ground this man stands on. For someone who has spent so many years writing some of the most funny, absurd, brilliant, insightful, inspiring, /magical/ pieces of fiction I've ever read, who makes the world a most awesome place just by existing, to have this happen to him...well, it's fucked up. No one deserves it, but him certainly a lot less than most. I don't know. I kind of want to cry now.

So, to reiterate, FUCK.
